Data review: GR Cup Supra racing at Daytona

Data coaching · online data review

Data coaching: your traces, explained corner by corner.Your data, explained corner by corner.

Send one lap of onboard video and your data file. A professional data coach overlays your speed, throttle, brake and steering against a reference lap and tells you, corner by corner, where the time goes and what to change. Written debrief included. Back in 24 hours.

01 · What a data review is

Not a dashboard. A coach reading your data for you.

Overlay against a reference lap

Your lap is time-aligned against a reference (a coach's lap in the same car and track where we have one, or your own best sectors): speed, throttle, brake pressure, steering and gear, with the time-loss map showing exactly which corners cost you the lap.

Explained corner by corner, alongside the video

For every corner: where you brake and how hard, where the throttle comes back, the minimum speed, the line the data says you drove, and the one change that gives the most time. The traces are shown next to your onboard so the numbers make sense.

Any logger, any level

VBOX, AiM, MoTeC, RaceCapture, Garmin Catalyst, Apex Pro, and sim telemetry from iRacing or ACC. Club racer to Pro-Am, HPDE to GT4. More channels are better, but speed and GPS alone already tell most of the story.

The written debrief

The key areas for focus and improvement, the three biggest time losses, and a drill for each, in a document you keep. Members of Inside Line have theirs filed by track, so the next event starts from the last one.

02 · Why a data coach

Data without a coach is a spreadsheet. A coach without data is guessing.

Most drivers with a logger look at their own traces and see squiggles. Most coaches in the paddock work from memory ten minutes before the next session. An online data review takes the time a race weekend never allows: the whole lap, every corner, measured, and written down so it sticks.

The review is done by Alex Waters: 25 years in professional motorsport, sixteen of them as a McLaren driver coach, where reading a driver's data against a reference was the daily job. The same method, applied to your lap.

What it is good for

Finding the three corners that are costing the most. Settling the argument between what you feel and what the car is doing. Checking a setup change actually made you faster. Learning a new circuit from someone else's reference before you arrive. Preparing a race weekend on the sim with your real data.

See one first

The Sebring data review is a real one: a coach's 2:17.4 against a client's 2:22.8 in the same Toyota Supra GT4, side by side, with the time-loss map and the plan. The sample driver review shows the written debrief that comes with every review.

03 · Questions

What data file do I send?

Whatever your logger exports: VBOX (.vbo), AiM (.xrk/.csv), MoTeC (.ld/.csv), RaceCapture, Garmin Catalyst, Apex Pro, or an iRacing/ACC telemetry export. A CSV with time, speed and GPS is enough; throttle, brake and steering make it better.

Do I need a reference lap?

No. Where we have a coach's lap in your car and track it is used; otherwise your own best sectors become the reference and the review shows what one lap with all your best corners would be worth.

Is this the same as a driver review?

It is the driver review with data: the same written debrief, with the narration replaced by the data overlay explained corner by corner alongside the video. Video only gets the narrated review; video plus data gets this one. Same price.

How fast is it?

Within 24 hours of your upload window closing. Fast track and same-day race-weekend debriefs are available.

Can you coach from data alone, without video?

Yes, though video makes the explanation clearer and catches things data misses (your eyes, hands, the kerbs). Send both when you can.
